Forza Motorsport 2 Nissan 350Z

Hitting late tonight (well technically, tomorrow, August 1) at 2AM PST will be a free Nissan car pack for Forza Motorsport 2, which includes the 2007 models of the Sentra SE-R, Altima, and 350Z. There will also be a single car that you can purchase for a measly 50 Microsoft Points (or $0.62) in the Peugeot 908. To celebrate the release of the free downloadable content, there will be a variety of events held by Nissan and Xbox.

The first of these activities will be a Nissan Sentra SE-R tournament on Xbox LIVE. In addition to the tournament, Nissan and Xbox will also be hosting an in-game customization contest, as fans utilize the incredibly deep livery system of “Forza Motorsport 2” to create unique and stunning paint jobs on their Nissan Sentra SE-Rs. The contest will be judged by a panel comprised of Turn 10 developers and Nissan representatives, as fans vie for the title of ultimate Nissan customizer.

Further details will be unveiled on ForzaMotorsport.net, and we’ll keep you up-to-date here at Playfeed. Check after the break for shots of both the Altima and Sentra. (That’s a 350Z above, in case you aren’t great at figuring that sort of thing out.)

Halo 3 4 player co-op

UPDATE: For all of you Negative Nancys out there, the news has been made official on Bungie.net. Head over there for details on the two Elites players three and four will take the role of (pictured above).

ORIGINAL STORY: While the news has yet to make it onto Bungie.net, a post made on the NeoGAF forums a short while ago posted a translation from Dutch website Inside Gamer stating that Halo 3 would support 4-player co-op. While the wording was difficult to understand (and initially looked like it might only be confirming 4-player split-screen co-op), Bungie’s Luke Smith has given this the thumbs up with a single word: “Believe.”

He later in the thread stated that news about this would make its way onto the official Bungie website later today, but this is huge news for Halo fans who were told that Halo 3 wouldn’t even be supporting online co-op.

As a huge Halo fan, I’m absolutely ecstatic over this. Online co-op in any form would have been fantastic. But FOUR players? That’s ridiculously awesome. I just wonder who the third and fourth players will play the role of.

Marathon Durandal Xbox Live Arcade

Finally, Bungie’s Marathon. The game that was arguably better than Doom back in the day, but got little no attention because it was released only on Macs. (That’s what they get.) Marathon: Durandal, however, is actually the sequel to the original Marathon which saw a release on both Windows and Mac. The XBLA port was developed by Freeverse, and includes a variety of features that will make it worth its 800 Microsoft Point price tag – HD graphics, Xbox Live play, and co-op.

Spyglass Board Games has been heavily anticipated by many gamers, as for 400 Microsoft Points you get a sweet package of Chess, Checkers, Mancala and Reversi, all with Xbox Live Vision Camera support.

Both games will be available this Wednesday on Xbox Live Arcade.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on

Announced at Comic-Con, the new price drop on the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 will lower the unit’s price to $179 (down from $199.99) starting August 1. As an added incentive, Toshiba’s Perfect Offer has been extended to the 360 HD-DVD Player – anyone who purchases the HD-DVD add-on will be able to select five free HD-DVDs from a list of 15 through a mail-in offer. Don’t expect the greatest selection of movies, though, as is the case with the five free Blu-ray movies that come with the purchase of a PlayStation 3. But free is free.

Microsoft also teased the HD-DVD release of Heroes: Season 1 and 300; Xbox Live will be home to some exclusive content. On August 14, 300 will be available for download in HD, and for a limited time, the pilot episode of Heroes will be free to download.

It certainly looks like Microsoft is pushing hard with HD-DVD, and understandably so – Blu-ray has been the more successful of the two next-gen DVD formats as of late. And the success of Blu-ray is of major support to Sony and the PlayStation 3 - and Microsoft isn’t looking to do them any favors.

Xbox Live 10K Club

Typically, you expect to receive gifts on an anniversary – especially a birthday. But such is not the way the Internet works. The Xbox Live 10K Club has now turned one-year-old, and to start the celebration, they’re giving away a copy of Civil War: A Nation Divided for the Xbox 360. Throughout August, they’ll also be giving away a new game each week, t-shirts, and the like. But the grand prize is the best part – a Halo 3 Edition Zune and a copy of Civil War. Not too shabby, eh?

Go and show your support for the 10K Club at www.xbl10kclub.com. They’re a great bunch of people and have a very nice community of gamers, and if you qualify (guess what the requirement is?), you’ll even be able to join the 10K Club. Congrats guys – thanks for all the hard work that’s just for the community, and here’s to another year and beyond.

300 Xbox 360For those who can’t make it to this year’s Comic-Con, your Xbox 360 has got your back. Starting tomorrow, July 26, and running until August 7, Xbox Live and Xbox.com/comiccon will be home to all sorts of good content from the event. Previously, Bringing It Home only provided coverage to E3 and TGS, but it looks like Microsoft saw how much the public appreciated it, and has decided to do it for other events. Here’s to hoping Comic-Con isn’t the last new event added to the Bringing It Home campaign.

From July 26 to August 7, Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com/comiccon will feature full access to all of Warner [Bros.]’s Comic-Con featured game trailers, show panels, movie and TV trailers and sneak peeks, celebrity interviews, show exclusives and customization themes for Xbox LIVE. Plus, action film and comic book fans will have access to an array of exclusive themes from 300 and DC Comics available for download.
Additionally, 300 fans who are attending Comic-con this year are in for two special treats.  Warner Bros. will be hosting a special screening of the movie at Petco field for 6,000 conference attendees, all of whom will be entered to win one of ten custom limited edition 300-themed Xbox 360 Elite consoles.

Super Contra XBLA

As we reported yesterday, Xbox Live Arcade has given us two games again this week: Super Contra and Wing Commander Arena. Unfortunately, it’s the arcade port of Super Contra, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s, well, Super Contra. Definitely worth the 400 Microsoft Points if you’re a fan. If you’re a newbie to Contra and try out the game only to see you’re awful at the game, don’t worry – most people are.

Wing Commander Arena is a bit of a mixed bag. Because unlike Super Contra, which is the old game you remember, this is not Wing Commander. But, it does feature 16-player Xbox Live multiplayer, which is a first in an Arcade game. At 800 Microsoft Points it might be a bit of a stretch, but if you’re looking for a fun multiplayer 2D shooter, Arena just about fits the bill.

Wing Commander Arena

Two games will hit Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow, both of which are classics, in a way. The first is Super Contra, something I’ve been waiting a long time for, since the original Contra release was the coin-op arcade version, as opposed to the superior NES one. But Super Contra was arguable the pinnacle of the series, and with online co-op and achievements, you better pick it up.

The other title is a bit of mixed bag. Wing Commander Arena is the rebirth of the classic Wing Commander franchise, which was phenomenal back in the day (and remains such in the hearts of many). Arena is going in a different direction, and despite what you might expect after seeing screenshots from the game, it’s in fact not 3D – you can’t move up or down; only horizontally. So even though you’re in space you’re confined to a single plane. Lame. On the plus-side, Arena is the first Arcade game to feature 16-player Xbox Live multiplayer, so that might justify an 800 Microsoft Point purchase.
